Auto Detailing Training
The ESOTERIC Elite Detailer Academy
Presented by Todd Cooperider
PROVEN DETAILING SOLUTIONS FROM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Over the years of writing detailing articles and educational material, I received countless requests for auto detailing training from professional detailers that were interested in stepping up their paint correction skills. Given that demand, I established the Esoteric Elite Detailer Academy where detailers from around the world can attend and learn not only the most modern and responsible paint correction techniques, but they will also be trained on a wide variety of products and tools that they might not have had had exposure to otherwise.
This intensive 2-day course will be held regularly at the beautiful ESOTERIC – Fine Auto Finishing headquarters in New Albany (Columbus), Ohio.
The Elite Detailer course is recommended for both seasoned veterans, and those new to machine polishing. The class is limited to just 5 students and is taught by a Master Detailer who still actively perfects cars using modern tools, products, and techniques.
While predominantly attended by new detailers, or those ready to start a detailing business, we also have plenty of students who have been detailing for many years but wish to improve their skillsets. Additionally, we have trained a considerable number of people who are simply extreme automotive enthusiasts who wish to learn how to polish their own prized possessions.
The small-class setting allows us to closely monitor and personally educate each individual student, and when complete, you will have the machine-polishing skills to bring a car’s finish to the next level and beyond.

For those of you who are maybe thinking of upping your “game,” I wanted to pass on a few thoughts from my April class at Esoteric’s Elite Detailer Academy in New Albany, Ohio. First of all, it’s the best $1500, plus hotel and gas, that I’ve ever spent. Dinner and lunches were on Todd, so if you can forebear from jumping with both feet into your significant student discount on Esoteric supplies, the experience was imminently affordable for what you’re going to learn. Plus it’s hard to put a value to a cool road trip and two days of intensive high end Detailing without the wife and kids. Just kidding, honey.
I went into the Academy fairly confident of my skill level. O my, was I sadly mistaken. Todd was assisted by D J Mayo who flew in from Virginia to give a hand with the class. I think D J sensed my confidence level because he rode me unmercifully. I learned more in two days with D J and Todd than the entire past four years where I’ve taken, what for me is a hobby, pretty seriously. Is that worth $1500, plus being fed, plus a significant student discount, plus answers to any questions you can dream up? Like I said, it’s the best money I ever spent if you are truly interested in Detailing.
A couple of pics. We worked on a 2016 Mercedes AMG GLE 450 that was full of piano black pillars and all sorts of convex and concave curves. Compounding was with Meguiar’s MF disks and Jescar’s Correcting Compound. Polishing was with Sonax Perfect Finish. We used Kamikaze’s Myabi as a coating and Kamikaze’s ISM was applied to all the trim.
Some tips that stick out in my mind: pressure is a key variable and we spent some time on the digital scales. Divide the panel up in your mind and keep your area under control. Two passes in each direction is all you need. ISM is the bomb on trim.Mike E.
